Evaluating Air Quality Recommendations: Impact on Club Activities and Events

Ontario Cycling is actively reviewing the current situation around the Air Quality warnings for Ontario specifically as it concerns upcoming club activities and events. OC strongly encourages all members to visit Environment & Climate Change Canada and follow the recommended guidelines for sports and physical activities during air quality warnings.

Guidelines and recommended activity levels can be found at www.airhealth.ca and we strongly encourage all clubs and members to use caution and follow the recommended guidelines for their area, as Environment & Climate Change Canada are the experts..

Please find more information on the Air Quality Index and its utilization at the following links:

OC encourages everyone to stay connected and informed by visiting our website and following us on our social media channels for the latest updates regarding the current Wildfire and Air Condition situation.

We appreciates your cooperation and understanding as we navigate these challenges and prioritize the health and safety of our cycling community.

Updates

The current air quality situation in the Province is impacting a lot of our daily lifestyle activities that take place outside. Currently, the OC does not have specific Events/Activities and Air Quality guidelines; however, it is on the radar, along with other climate change pieces. OC will be working on something to help further guide clubs, but as of right now, please exercise caution during severe warnings and follow the recommendations of Environment & Climate Change Canada, as they are the experts!

The safety and well-being of our members, racers, volunteers, officials, and staff are our top priority and as a result, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the upcoming Ontario Cup #2 – Northumberland Classic Road Race scheduled to take place on June 10th, 2023. This decision has been made in light of the current wildfire situation and resulting air quality warnings for our province. Please see the official announcement for more information.
