Support youth cycling across Ontario

Purpose

Ontario Cycling (OC) recognizes that the landscape of youth cycling has changed in recent years and that the challenges facing clubs and event organizers who are focused on providing youth development continues to grow. The Ontario Cycling Youth Cycling Fund in memory of Tony Osborne was developed to focus on providing support to those groups who provide these opportunities for youth (18 years and younger) within all cycling disciplines. Youth events may apply for a grant that can be utilized for operational costs such as medals, timing, police, barricades etc. which will enhance the quality of the event or provide for a more robust event.

OC affiliated clubs may also have specific areas of interest that they would like to further develop (for coaches or athletes). This could be focusing on a specific technical skill [e.g., MTB drops] or introducing a new cycling sport into the clubs [e.g., cyclo-cross]. The intention of the grant is to utilize the expertise that is available within the province, increase opportunities for knowledge sharing, and help clubs enhance their training delivery.

Thank you to the Newmarket Eagles Club’s and Ontario Cycling’s collaborative efforts, the “Tony Osborne Memorial Youth Cycling Fund” is open for contributions. This fund welcomes donations from our valued OC and NECC members, passionate cycling enthusiasts from across Ontario, and beyond, as well as anyone who wishes to honour Tony’s memory in this meaningful way.

The fund will be administered by OC and its purpose will be to support youth in the developmental stages of their cycling career up to the age of 18 (junior) cyclists. It will focus on specific bursaries, youth development clinics, youth camps and provide seed money and operational support to youth road, track and MTB events.

With the establishment of this fund, it provides an opportunity for NECC to significantly expand its contribution to youth cycling through a major donation to the Tony Osborne Memorial Youth Cycling Fund from the club’s currently existing youth fund, which has historically been relatively under-utilized.
