The safety and well-being of our members, racers, volunteers, officials, and staff are our top priority and as a result, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the upcoming Ontario Cup #2 – Northumberland Classic Road Race scheduled to take place on June 10th, 2023. This decision has been made in light of the current wildfire situation and resulting air quality warnings for our province.
We understand the disappointment this may cause, as we were all eagerly looking forward to the event. However, the unpredictable nature of wildfires and their potential impact on air quality and overall safety necessitates this decision. Wildfire smoke contains a complex mixture of toxic air pollutants including gases, vapours and particulates, which can penetrate deep in the lungs and is absorbed into the bloodstream. This places everyone at risk of adverse health effects from exposure to wildfire smoke regardless of their age or health status, especially when engaged in strenuous outdoor activities.
