OC Winter BMX Camp – Applications Open

Feb.  13 – 21, 2025 (tentative)

Overview

Ontario Cycling will be hosting a winter BMX Camp in Florida to provide athletes with an on track training opportunity in preparation for early season competitions. The camp will be focused on athletes with previous experience racing supercross tracks.  

Project Objectives
  • To provide athletes with on-track training during a period when Ontario’s climate doesn’t allow access to outdoor track
  • To refine key BMX skills with emphasis on gate starts, jump lines, drops, and bike balance/positioning
  • To expose athletes to a training camp environment and develop the off bikes skills and habits of a high performance athlete
  • To provide athlete leadership education and training in representing Ontario and themselves 
 
Athlete Profile [4-6 athletes will be selected]
  • 16 – 22 years old in 2025
  • Strong performance/experience at Canada Cup/National Championships
  • Demonstrated commitment to Team Ontario programming
  • Positive contributor and respectful of athletes, coaches and support staff

Camp Composition

4-6 Athletes (depending on logistics capacity)

Additional athletes may be invited to attend camp training (must arrange for their own travel/accommodations)

Athlete Requirements

·        2025 UCI License issued by Ontario

·        Completion of NCCP Safe Sport Module

·        Previous experience jumping on a supercross track

Estimated Cost*

Includes accommodations, coaching, internal transportation, track access and education workshops

*Final cost established following athlete selections

·        ~$500 + Air Fare/Baggage

·        Athletes selected into the “Provincial Performance Pool” of the Targeted Athlete Program [BMX]

Selection Criteria (Priority)

Athletes selected based on the identified order of criteria.

·        Athletes Selected into the “Provincial Development Pool” of the Targeted Athlete Program [BMX]

Selection Criteria (Additional Athletes)

Additional athletes may be selected based on the following considerations in the priority order listed and upon the recommendation of the HP Committee

1.   Athletes placing in the top 5 at 2024 National Championships 15/16/Junior/U23categories*

2.   Athletes placing in the top 5 at 2024 Canada Cup [junior devo/junior/U23]*

*Number of participants in each category will be taken into consideration should a category have less than 8 athletes

Tiebreaking based on:

·     Prioritization order: Junior – 16 – 15- U23

3.   HP Committee Recommendation based on:

·        Performance results at national/international competition

·        Demonstrated commitment to sport through participation at OC training camps, projects, and training under the direction of a coach
