March 11, 2022
From March 4th to March 6th, the Ontario Provincial Track Championships were hosted by the Ontario Cycling at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton, Ontario. More than 120 riders competed in the different races. Championship titles culminate the hard work of riders, coaches, and volunteers across the province throughout the year.
On Friday, the Sprint Tournament took place. Many riders waited for this event to take place for a long time. Especially as it is the only sprint event next to Nationals, many riders were looking forward to it. Sprint riders start with a flying 200m lap to qualify for the main round in the team. In the main competition, the fastest rider will compete against the slowest rider of the qualifiers. Both riders race against each other, and only the fastest one advances to the next round. In the so-called semi-final, the riders have to win a best of three series to move on to the final.
Saturday was determined by Pursuits, Time Trials and the Keirin. As many riders were competing for more than just one particular event, it was the longest day of the Ontario Provincial Track Championships. Bunch races throughout the day characterized Sunday. Scratch, Elimination, and points races marked the end of this year’s Ontario Provincial Track Championships.
All in all, it was a great weekend with fantastic competitions and a great atmosphere. All results can be found here. The Ontario Cycling would like to thank all riders, volunteers, commissaries, partners and staff members for contributing to this year’s Ontario Provincial Track Championships. We can’t wait to have you back next season or even earlier outdoors.
