Overview

Ontario will be selecting a team to represent Para, U17/U19 Men/Women for the 2024 Canadian Road Championships. Athletes will be provided coaching support (including course reconnaissance of RR and ITT), in race caravan support during the RR (ITT support where possible), mechanic support (including pre-race preparation), and Team Ontario kit (jersey/shorts). Athletes will be responsible for their own travel and accommodations.

A chargeback to cover a portion of the Team Ontario Kit may be applied.

Team Ontario – Para Selection Criteria

Team Composition: Open based on athletes meeting the criteria below

Recognizing that there are limited opportunities for competition and performances, the selection process will remain open to help build the pool of para-cycling athletes in Ontario. However, athletes identified as priority may receive additional support from coaches/mechanics to maximize performance potential.

Para-Athletes Team Ontario Selection Criteria (Priority)

  • Athletes who were selected for Cycling Canada projects in 2023/24
  • Athletes who are part of the current targeted athlete pool [OHPSI]
  • Athletes who have competed at the 2023 Canadian Para-Road Championships
  • Athletes who have competed at the 2023 Ontario Provincial Para-Road Championships
 

Para-Athletes Team Ontario Selection Criteria

  • Athletes who have attended an Ontario Cycling Camp in 2023 or 2024
  • Athletes demonstrating a commitment to training (evidence of training plan in place, coaching)

U17/U19 Team Ontario Selection Criteria

Team Composition: 4 athletes for each team (additional athletes will be at discretion of the HP committee)

Selections will be based on the following criteria in priority sequence. Please note criteria is subject to change as approved by the High Performance Committee due to cancellation/addition of events or other reasons which require changes.

1. Athletes who were selected for Cycling Canada 2023/2024 Road Projects and/or Road World Championships* [automatic selections]

2. Top 4 U19 athletes and top 4 U17 athletes (M/F) with the highest point total based on the points grid below.

In the event of a tiebreak situation, the coach and HP Committee will apply the following in priority order:          

           a. Highest point total of the events which involved tied athletes

           b. Highest placing in the OCup Road Races which involved tied athletes

           c. Highest place in an OCup Road Race

           d. Committee selection with consideration of the items listed in item 3. below 

3. Additional athletes may be added to the team based on Coach/HP Committee recommendation of the following:

           a. Athlete race experience at high level (national/international) events in 2023/24

           b. Strength of the athlete as it relates to the needs of the team

    • Time Trial
    • Climber
    • Sprinter
