OC Women’s Spotlight – Venus Cheung

How long have you been in cycling?

I have been cycling for 1.5 years.

How did you get into cycling?

My dad has been biking for over two decades. Watching him every Sunday morning going MTB with friends sparked my curiosity about this sport. Until last year, I met my current boyfriend. That’s my turning point to own my first road bike and have many adventures together. During that time, I am a runner and now I have embrace triathlon! Joining Saddle Sisters of High Park and Zwift has make me bike more and gai confidence! 

 

What is your favorite discipline?

Road Cycling.

Who is your favorite cyclist?

Mark Cavendish because his mental strength and openness about the unspoken world of eating disorder in endurance sports.

 

What has been your favorite event in 2024?

Cavendish 35th Tour de France Stage Win. 

What is something you want to see in the future of cycling?

More attention to REDs (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport) in endurance cycling, more women participate in athletic cycling. More respect for slower women cyclists on the road, give space and don’t honk. Some women cyclists feel discriminated because they are slower and being women. Everyone deserves a safe road for biking.
