Ontario Cycling is pleased to announce Malcolm Barton has been hired as the Provincial Mountain Bike Coach – Endurance and Talent ID. Malcolm brings experience as both a coach and athlete to our programming. During his racing career Malcolm actively competed at the World Cup level as well as extensively in Canada and US Cups. He has also represented Team Canada in cyclo-cross including at the 2020 UCI CX World Championships. During his coaching career, Malcolm has established his own coaching business as well as worked extensively with the Durham Shredders in helping develop some of Ontario’s top riders. This includes organizing numerous race projects and training camps, specifically hosting an annual mountain bike camp to Brevard, NC which has involved 40 athletes in 2024.
In this new role, Malcolm will be working with a targeted group of U17/U19 athletes to help prepare them for success at the international level. To start 2026, he will be leading a winter endurance in Spain and MTB skills camps in Victoria. Malcolm will also be working to grow the pool of talent in the province through outreach and talent identification camps and helping to expand our Rising Stars camps and programs.
