Women on Wheels: Women in Cycling History in Toronto and Beyond

August 11 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Join us as three local cycling historians take us on a fast-paced ride through the often-overlooked and under-appreciated history of women’s cycling in Toronto, beginning with the bicycle craze of the 1890s all the way to the 2020s pandemic and the present day.
Julia Morgan, director of the award-winning animated film Undeniably Young: Nora Young & the Six-Day Race, tells the story of Young, a force of nature and early female bike racing champion whose incredible exploits in 1930s Toronto were nearly lost to history … until now. See the film’s trailer at http://undeniablyyoung.ca/
Albert Koehl, author, Wheeling through Toronto, A History of the Bicycle and Its Riders introduces some of the women who played an important role in advocating for the utilitarian cyclist in the city. https://utorontopress.com/97814…/wheeling-through-toronto/
T.R. Ormond, author, A Will Within a Wheel, The Women Racers of the 1890s, gives a fictional account of some of the world’s prominent racers. https://awillwithinawheel.com
