The City of Welland partners with Ontario Cycling to deliver a community program during June 2024. This program is for youth between the ages of 7-9.
HopOn is a game-based activity program for youth to develop on-bike skills. This program was adopted by Cycling Canada from Cycling BC and is considered the “national standard” when teaching fundamental cycling skills.
Led by trained instructors, the program provides youth to participate in an inclusive & positive sports environment. With over 130 games & activities, the HopOn curriculum has 5 levels of adaptability to meet the needs of the participants’ development stage.
Skills that are practiced through this curriculum of game-based activities include but are not limited to helmet & bike check, braking, gearing, ready position, straight-line riding, turning/cornering, front-wheel lifts, tilts & dismounts, one-hand riding & partner riding.
The sessions will take place at the Welland Community Centre and the instructor will be Dawn Cant Elliott.
