Did you know that with your OC membership, you have access to Ontario Cycling’s core Sports Liability ($10M per occurrence) and Sports Accident ($50,000) insurance coverage through Gallagher Insurance? This insurance coverage is there for you while participating in OC-sanctioned activities, such as an OC-affiliated club ride or a provincially sanctioned race. With this member benefit, you can safely participate in OC-sanctioned activities with peace of mind knowing that OC’s coverage is there in case something should occur. The Sport Accident insurance can help cover things such as physiotherapy and other medical bills which may occur due to injury during a sanctioned activity.
Personal Accident Extension Coverage
We also offer members the opportunity to protect themselves against injury outside of OC-sanctioned activities with our Personal Accident Extension Coverage. This coverage, available for personal training or anytime on bike travel, provides members with additional Sports Accident Coverage while riding outside the scope of OC-sanctioned activities (unsanctioned racing excluded). Members can add this option when purchasing their membership or add it after by visiting the link on our website.
The Biking Lawyer
Biking Lawyer David Schellnut points out: “There is a tremendous value to the Core Sports Liability Policy and the Sports Accident insurance offered by the OC. If the unthinkable occurs while engaged in an OC-sanctioned activity, access to a good policy could prove instrumental in getting you back on the bike.
Given the work that we do, we are especially fond of OC’s Personal Accident Extension Coverage. This coverage extends to incidents on your bicycle that are not associated with sanctioned activities, like commuting to work or running errands. The added coverage provided by the PAE should buttress any existing insurance you are entitled to and ensure that you receive fulsome rehabilitation and recovery supports. Read our cycling insurance Blog and stay tuned for our Blog on the OC x Gallagher Insurance options.”
