Ontario Cycling will be hosting a training camp for targeted MTB athletes in Victoria, BC. The West coast trail systems provide highly technical and large features reflective of international level race courses. Athletes will work on body positioning, descending/cornering skills, and determining optimal riding lines.
Programming will also include endurance work and interval training to develop aerobic capacity and learn to maximize energy usage through improving riding efficiency. Off-bike workshops and training will be scheduled in-conjunction with local facilities and expertise. The camp will create an immersive high performance training environment where athletes are expected to bring a professional approach to on and off-bike training sessions.

Project Objectives
- To provide exposure and training miles on highly technical trail settings reflective of international level competition courses
- To provide athletes with repeated training on large technical features under the direction and coaching of technical experts
- To provide athletes the opportunity to get early-season on-trail training in preparation for early season competition
AthleTe Profile
- 15 – 22 years old in 2023
- Ontario Cycling Member and UCI License holder
- Strong performance/experience at Canada Cup/National Championships
- Demonstrated commitment to Team Ontario programming
- Positive contributor and respectful of athletes, coaches, and support staff
Athlete Requirements
Athletes must:
- hold a valid 2023 UCI license issued by Ontario Cycling
- complete the NCCP Safe Sport Module
- complete the CCES Anti-Doping Course (or other approved anti-doping training within the past two (2) years)
- represent Ontario and themselves in a professional manner at all times
- bring their bicycles in 100% working order
- be 100% self-sufficient; bring tube(s), tools, pump, food, water, money, jacket/rain jacket on every ride
- be prepared to do grocery shopping, cooking/preparing your own meals (group meals will also be planned), cleaning, and staying organized
- be open in your communication with coaches regarding health/injury and fatigue levels as well as experience/comfort in performing specific skills
Selection Criteria
- Athletes selected to represent Canada at the 2022 U19/U23 MTB World Championships
- Athletes placing in the top 8 at Canada Cup or National Championships in U17/U19 categories*
Tiebreaking based on:
- Gender balance
- U23 prioritized over U19
- Higher placing at 2022 national championship if in same category
- Committee selection based on:
- Athlete performances at all UCI, National, Provincial sanctioned events
- Athlete involvement with Team Ontario/HP programming
Committee/Coach recommendation based athlete performances across all 2022 events, gender balance, athlete demonstrated commitment to training/sport, and 2023 goals
*Number of participants in each category will be taken into consideration should a category have less than 8 athletes
