Ontario Cycling Association Para Program

With the 2021 outdoor Para-Cycling race season coming to an end, it’s time to reflect and prepare for the offseason training and sights on new goals for 2022.

The Ontario Cycling Associations Para-Cycling program has been busy with a last big push to the season. With back-to-back weekends we first headed to Collingwood with our High Performance and Development group to polish our skills, enjoy some group effort training, and finished it all off with a mock time trial for some fun.

With over 620 m of climbing up the side of Blue Mountain, the athletes definitely had to work for the reward of incredible views over Georgian Bay before starting the famous descent of “scenic caves”.  Capping the ride off with some threshold work on the way back, it was a great last training effort to end the season.

Sunday, we used one of the many incredible multi use paths and former rail trails that we love Collingswood for, to get to our time trial training area. After some breakdown, instruction,  opportunity to practice our skills and new ideas, we headed over to our start line using 1-minute gaps between athletes.

This past weekend we opened the door and provided equipment and instruction for new Para-Cycling athletes to come out and get a feel for what Para-Cycling is, learn about the available programming, take a bike for a ride and learn the basics. Nothing but smiles all day long!

The OCA is offering one last Para Try-Out Day Sunday November 7th at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre upper parking lot.   If your interested in participating please contact Provincial Para Coach Blaine Betzold at [email protected]
