SUMMARY:Ride with the Randonneuses: A Women-Only 200km Brevet
DESCRIPTION:Club: Randonneurs Ontario Endurance Cycling Club\nDate: Saturday September 19\, 2026\nDeparture: \nTim Horton’s / A&W\, 123 Pioneer Dr\nKitchener\, ON\n \nRoute: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/39353747\nRegistration: https://register.randonneursontario.ca/event/2026/huron/win-del-velodrome-1313/\n \nCost: $0*\n* Must be a Trial or Full Member of the Randonneurs Ontario Club in order to participate. Club membership requires a minimum of Ontario Cycling Community membership.\n\nDiscover the world of endurance cycling with Randonneurs Ontario. We are hosting a women-only 200km brevet designed to introduce riders to the unique discipline of randonneuring in a supportive\, community-focused environment. This year’s route features a checkpoint stop at the old outdoor Windel Velodrome. \nWhat is Randonneuring?\nUnlike a Gran Fondo or a road race\, randonneuring is a non-competitive\, long-distance form of cycling. It is a test of endurance\, navigation\, and self-reliance. \n\nThe Route: There are no road closures or directional markings. You will follow a provided GPS track or cue sheet strictly.\nThe Pace: This is not a race. You ride at your own pace—solo or in a group—with the goal of finishing within the 13.5-hour time limit.\nThe Results: All successful finishers are listed alphabetically on the club website; there are no podiums\, only the personal achievement of the distance.\n\nSupport & Controls\nWhile randonneuring generally requires riders to be self-supported between stops\, this special event features staffed checkpoints (controls). Club members will be stationed at three points along the route to stamp your brevet card\, provide snacks\, and offer a friendly cheering section to keep your spirits high. \nNote on Self-Sufficiency: Between controls\, riders must remain self-reliant. You may assist fellow participants\, but you cannot accept outside “follow-car” support or help that isn’t available to every other rider on the course. \n\nRegistration & Membership\nThere is no entry fee for this ride\, but participants must be members of Randonneurs Ontario and Ontario Cycling (OC). \n\n\nTrial Membership: New riders are encouraged to sign up for a free trial membership. \n\n\nFull Membership: A full season membership grants you access to dozens of club events throughout 2026. \n\n\nInsurance: A Community Tier membership with Ontario Cycling is required for insurance purposes. \n\n\nEvent Details\n\n\nDistance: 200km \n\n\nTime Limit: 13.5 Hours (Finishes over the limit are recorded as OTL). \n\n\nAtmosphere: Encouraging\, inclusive\, and strong. \n\n\nCome ride strong with the “randonneuses” of Ontario! #WeRideAsOne \nQuestions? Reach out to Fred Chagnon at vp-huron@randonneursontario.ca. \n
